I bought a class D amp which says the outlet it is plugged into must be grounded.  I’d like to plug it into my Dectet, but I’d like to be sure the outlets are grounded.  I expect they are grounded, but confirmation of this would nice.

Thanks,

RJ

RJ, I have one for auxiliary use and have had no problems. I assume to to be grounded.

Yes, while some incredibly cheap power strip might not have ground wires running to the third prong, or a home outlet might not be properly grounded. Any product from PS Audio that has a ground plug is grounded.

I think they would be violating electrical codes, if if the grounds weren’t hooked up.

If you are concerned about grounds, hardware stores sell a little tester that you plug in to your outlets, everyone should own one.

See link:. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Power-Gear-3-Wire-Receptacle-Tester-50542/206212329?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD

I too own a Dectet, it is a good value.

What Class D amp is it? What do they claim about the need for grounding. While grounding is always best, it is not unusual to have one component that needs a cheater plug. Of all my components, the battery pack/charger for my phono preamp needs it’s ground lifted or I get an audible hum.

I found a video on YouTube which shows how to use a multimeter to check an outlet for ground.  I confirmed the Dectet does have a proper ground.  Ain’t YouTube wonderful?!  So many detailed and useful videos, not to mention, funny pet videos.

I bought a pair of used Theta Prometheus monoblocks.  The manual was very specific that a ground was needed for optimal performance.  I believe the Stellar amps are the same way.

I bought these amps because they had good performance into 2 ohms, plus they’ve had very good reviews, notably from Sterophile.

I figured if you were asking about grounding with the Dectet, you probably did not own a multimeter. That is why I suggested the plug in tester. Even though I have a nice digital multimeter, I also own one of those little plug testers.

Those Theta’s are not your basic Class D amp. I have read the reviews too, congrats on getting the Thetas. How do you like them?  What did they replace?

I own a multimeter, just not very skilled at using it…..

I’ve only had them in the system for a day.  So far, it’s very promising.  More details are emerging from the few songs I’ve listened to.  Some vocalists sound different than before.  There is more bass impact than before, which is something I was hoping for, and the result of better performance into more difficult loads.

The prior configuration was bi-amped, wth a Krell KAV-3250 driving the midrange drivers and tweeters.  An ncore nc400 diy amp was driving the bass drivers in the main speakers.  The Thetas are now the only amp driving the main speakers.  I also have a separate passive subwoofer driven by an very old Adcom GFA-555 amp.

I’ve got a few more changes to make to the system, before I reach a final configuration.  The seller included a pair of upgraded balanced interconnects in the sale.  I want the system to be in its final configuration before I add them into the mix.  I will provide an update in the next few days.

I bought them from a seller in Covina, CA.  Their store is in a set of industrial buildings, which is a bit surprising.  However, when you get to the showroom, it’s pretty impressive.  I believe they have every speaker model offered by Wilson, except for the 600k model.  They are all ready to play, no reconfiguration needed.  I would buy from them in the future.

Sounds like Sunny’s Components.  Been there a couple times, most recently at the November LA & OC Audio Society event.

Correct.

I noticed they had the huge Naim flagship amplifier connectioned to the Wilson Alexandrias.  Probably better that I didn’t listen to them….
